36th Annual GSARS

Spring Semester, 2020

the logo for the 36th Annual Graduate Student Assembly Research Symposium is a multi-colored light bulb, exploding with possibilities, on a white background with teal text

2020 brought many changes to Virginia Tech, shifting all classes online and requesting that students remain at home and physically distanced. This was quite a challenge in terms of the annual Research Symposium, which had traditionally been an all-day, in-person event, featuring speakers, interaction, and food. Instead, this year, speakers were tasked to provide accessible videos of their presentations, and then to participate in a live Question and Answer session with their assigned judges. Judges, for the first time, did all of their scoring online, which provided us insights into better methods for their invaluable work.

Over $24,000 in awards was provided in the form of scholarships for these deserving presenters. All of these funds were derived from donations from our many generous offices, colleges, schools, departments, and programs at Virginia Tech.

Please feel free to watch our first ever virtual Keynote speech, and to check out the program book for the 36th Annual GSA Research Assembly.
