Little Hokie(tm) Hand-me-Down

A Virginia Tech tradition, the Little Hokie™ Hand-Me-Down event brings together faculty, staff, and students who either wish to give away or to receive gently used goods for their babies and children.

This year's Little Hokie™ Hand-Me-Down will be in the Graduate Life Center Multipurpose Room. The Graduate School, Graduate and Professional Student Senate, and Women’s Community Center at Virginia Tech sponsor the Hand-Me-Down, and members of the university and Blacksburg communities make the event possible, donating gently used or new items for families.

2026 Collection dates: October 5 through November 9, at the Graduate Life Center Front Desk (155 Otey Street, Blacksburg) and at 206 Washington Street, SW, Blacksburg. See list below for the items we are asking for.

2026 Distribution dates: Graduate Students only November 10 from 12pm - 4pm.  Graduate Students and Staff: November 10, 4-6pm and November 11 from 8am to 12pm.  Items will be available for selection in the Graduate Life Center Multipurpose Room.

This program is designed to benefit Virginia Tech graduate students, staff and families. We will be collecting unused/gently used children's items for parents and children ages 0 to 10.

Each year, we accept:

• Toys, books and school supplies
•  Formula (unexpired)
• Gently used clothing (children and maternity)
• Medical supplies (no lactation devices)
• Strollers and car seats (unexpired)
• Bedding and sleep supplies/cribs
• Bathing and grooming supplies 
• Feeding supplies 
• Baby gear (activity gyms, bassinets, play mats, baby carriers, swings)
• Diapers and wipes

Any leftover items will be donated to charitable organizations in the area.

Volunteer: We always need help making this event happen! Example volunteer opportunities include: accept, examine, and sort incoming donations, organize displays of offerings for customers, welcome and support customers, tear down at the end of the event.
